Associated Organisations
The Institute has
formal links with like minded groups internationally and in Australia and has a
policy of forming links where they further the objectives of the Institute.
Many of these have evolved from innovations by Members and Directors including
through the IID Development Fund. Working links have been formed with the organisations which are briefly depicted below.
University of Adelaide - Development Studies
Development Studies are taught under the core subject Anthropology at
the School of Social Sciences of the University of Adelaide. The School is one
of five schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the
University of Adelaide. IID provides occasional lectures and mentors
students studying anthropology and development studies each year.
IID directors have had a close relationship with this faculty since 1998.
University of Melbourne -School of Land and Environment
The Melbourne School of Land and Environment is the largest faculty of its kind in the southern hemisphere, leading education and research in the critical areas of climate change and natural resource management to build sustainable urban and rural environments. IID's association with UNIMelb is through Professor Lindsay Falvey.
IID Director, Professor Lindsay Falvey, had been the Dean of a combined faculty of eight campuses from 1995 – 2000, with the task of merging the six colleges of the Victorian College of Agriculture and Horticulture with the university's ongoing departments related to agriculture and forestry.

Environmental Risk Science and Audit (ERSA)
Environmental Risk Science
and Audit (ERSA) Pty Ltd provides risk science and audit advisory services
across a broad range of sectors, focussing on natural resources management and
mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
ERSA has developed from the Risk Management Group of the Institute for International Development (IID) and consists of like-minded senior practitioners, researchers and academics with varied skills and experience in environmental science, risk and disaster management, natural resource management and auditing.
One of IID's Directors is a Director ERSA and most staff are members of IID. IID consulting continues to contribute to consultancies of ERSA within Australia and ERA contributes to Risk Science contracts of IID internationally.

NyPA Australia Limited
NyPa Australia Ltd. is a company that offers a range of agriculturally
productive salt loving plants for saline areas throughout Australia and
internationally in Southwest USA, Spain and the UAE. Nypa's vision is to help landholders
with saline soils to be more profitable, by giving them access to the latest
technology in salt loving plants. Work is currently being carried out on three
plants, these being NyPa Forage, NyPa Wild Wheat and NyPa Turf. The company had been developed under grants facilitated by the IID Development Fund from RIRDC,
AusIndustry, The Australian Research Council and the South Australian Innovation Fund. It has collaborated in this work with LaTrobe and Melbourne Universities in Victoria, Murdoch and the University of Western Australia AG WA and ICBA in Dubai. It plants are useful in rehabilitating salt degraded soils and water by improving soil structure and drainage while improving carbon stores and by removing nutrients from saline water effluent streams
GEA Timber Ventures
GEA Timber Ventures, Inc. promotes individual or corporate investments
in reforestations with high financial returns to investors - for a greener
future - through timber plantations with an 8-year cycle. The company was set
up by one of IID's Directors David King together with other associates of IID Philippines.
The company has the technical skills and management capability to produce quality timber - using vegetative cloning technology. The aim is to harvest timber annually and in a continuous cropping cycle to maximize returns for our company and our investors, and at the same time contribute to a greener future by promoting carbon sequestration to mitigate the negative effects of climate change.

Land Repair
Land Repair Australia (LRA) is new company formed to acquire and
rehabilitate degraded agricultural land. LRA is a new approach to
investment in Australia’s agricultural natural resource base.
The company results from a recently completed study into the feasibility of creating a new investment vehicle to facilitate private sector investment into acquiring and rehabilitating degraded land and water resources in Australia. The study was partly funded by Grants facilitated by the IID Development Fund from the Australian National Action Plan for salinity.

QPod Systems Limited
QPod Systems Ltd. is a NZ public company, developing a controlled
atmosphere transportation system for perishable products as an aid to value
chain marketing. The system is designed to enable perishable products to be
transported from the packing shed to supermarkets anywhere in the world. The
project has received backing from USDA and NZRBC. IID members have been
supporting the project for some 20 years through trial shipments to Japan the
US and Germany. The IID Development Fund has facilitated grants from
Horticulture Australia to assist Agon Berry Fruits Pty Limited to conduct a
series of controlled trials of the QPod system around Australia; these are now
expected to occur in 2011.

Care of Our Environment (COOE) is an Australian environmental consulting
company that delivers strategic solutions worldwide primarily but not limited
to the Resource Sector.
Besides its work in Australia, COOE has significant work experience in Africa and Asia Pacific funded by private sector and government agencies, including the World Bank and the Government of Zambia.
